Yoga Hero: All of Yoga Podcast – Episode 13

Align your intentions and actions

Align your intentions and actions

A guided meditation to help you aligning your intentions and actions.

Aligning your intentions and actions…

It sounds so simple doesn’t it; that when the things that you spend your time, your mental bandwidth and your energy doing, are different to the things that you enjoy, to the things that light you up, this difference becomes problematic.

However, when the things that you spend your valuable resources doing align with the characteristics, skills and values that you want to cultivate, something incredible special happens.

Have you ever thought ‘I’d absolutely love to meditate more, but I really don’t have the time…’ but then you find yourself scrolling social media after dinner?! Hey there’s nooooo judgement here, not one bit. This is all about being aware; being aware of how you spend your time, energy and mental bandwidth and how that contributes back to your life. (And this DOES NOT mean packing more in to your already busy life!)

This meditation is inspired by one of the Yamas, from the Eight Limbs of Yoga. The Yamas are ‘ethical guidelines’ – ways that you live that affect yourselves and others.

PLUS We have a brilliant masterclass ‘What is Yoga’ which explains the eight limbs of yoga, and how we can bring them in to our lives in a non-stressful but incredible beneficial way – take a look here.

There’s no previous experience needed for this masterclass, and it really shows the depth of All of Yoga!

Align your intentions and actions – Transcript

This podcast is a guided meditation to help you aligning your intentions and actions.

Arrive, take some deep breaths. Relax tension in the face and body.

So, let’s start with your actions. No judgement. Nice and calm. Allow yourself to visualise your standard day. If you took every day for the last six months or year, say, and took the things that you regularly do, or do daily, let’s put them in a ‘day in the life of you’.

What time do you wake up?

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

What are the activities that you fill your morning with? Showering, breakfasting, anything else? Maybe you check social media? Walk the dog? No judgement, we’re not analysing yet, we’re just being aware.

What time do you have lunch? How do you eat? On the move? At your desk? Leisurely somewhere else?

What fills your afternoon?

What fills your evening?

What time do you go to bed?

Do you have a bedtime routine?

And then take a step back, is there anything you do every day, or most days, that isn’t listed here? What about what goes on in your head? How about how you talk to yourself?

Take another step back, is there anything else we’ve missed?

Pause.

Now, visualise, picture, imagine yourself next year, or in five years. What characteristics does future you have? What’s important to that person? Time with friends? Money? Free time? Being well?

How many of the activities that you do every day, or most days, will lead to the characteristics, skills and values that you’d love future you to have, or to still have?

This isn’t another thing to beat yourself up about, it’s not another thing to add to your to do list. It’s a simple exercise, of just doing your best to remove anything / one thing that isn’t serving you, to, slowly but steadily, lead to you live at the highest state of existence.

Let’s finish with an intention setting. Say to yourself, ‘I pause and breathe’, ‘I pause and breathe’ whenever you have a quiet moment. Then in the moment, when you need it, your intention will surface, you’ll pause, and breathe and that will give you space to decide how to proceed, with the information, space, time and intention that you have at that given moment in time.

Take a couple of deep breaths, and open your eyes gently, if they were closed.

Namaste heroes!
